Wisdom Teeth

Hey friends!

Yesterday I got my wisdom teeth out.  All 4 of them.  Luckily they put me right under, because I hate the dentist.  I got referred to an oral surgeon and they used general anesthesia.

The night before the procedure I was so worried something would go wrong with the anesthesia (highly unlikely, I know, but anxiety does crazy stuff to one's brain).  I was also freaked out the fibromyalgia would make the pain during recovery terrible.  So I had a bit of a meltdown in my housemate's bed.  But she calmed me down and got me to go to sleep.

So at around 9 we headed to the oral surgeon's clinic.  Got there a bit early but read magazines until they called me in.  My housemate (big shout out and thanks to her) came in while they prepped me for surgery and sedated me.  She held my hand the second they put the laughing gas mask on my face.  After laughing gas they put an IV in, which I've had done before so it was no big deal.  About 2 minutes later my head was fuzzy from the gas.  From what I remember they pushed things like Gravol and stuff through the IV first.  Then the surgeon decided it was time to push the sleeping meds (whatever they are) and about a minute later they asked my housemate to leave. I remember her leaving the room and then waking up in a different room to someone giving me a blanket and seeing my roommate rounding the corner to join me in the recovery room.  The procedure was over before I had even realized it had started.  Which is just what I wanted.

Like 10-15 minutes after that we were good to go.  My housemate had already paid the bill for me so I didn't have to deal with any of that.  We picked up the prescription and headed home.   Most of my face was still frozen so I couldn't really feel anything.  I had juice and some applesauce then headed to bed for a nap.  The rest of the day was spent watching netflix with my housemate, except for when we went out to buy mashed potatoes so I had something to eat other than applesauce and ice cream.

Right before bed the freezing had basically worn off and I had extreme pain in my jaw... Luckily the Tylenol 3s kicked in pretty quickly and I fell asleep.

I woke up feeling pretty good but the pain returned quickly after I got up.  Motrin and T3s helped and I'm doing pretty well.  The meds don't completely kill the pain but they help.

I am so happy the procedure went so well.  And my cheeks have yet to swell up like a chipmunk so maybe I won't get to rock that look.

In other news, I got a job that I like better than the first job I was offered, and I interviewed for my dream part-time job, a tour guide for the Kingston Penitentiary.  We shall see if anything comes of that.

So the next couple days will be spent resting and eating mush.  Can't wait till I can eat real food again, I really want pizza and cake.  And maybe a burger from Five Guys... Yum.

Hope all is well with you, thanks for sticking with me on the crazy journey.

Love,

Jess
