Volunteer in Jamaica

I got into Jamaica Saturday night. It's beautiful and warm. But today my family did something wonderful... We visited a Jamaican school and read to some grade ones and did worksheets

We did it through the Sandals foundation's "Reading Roadtrip".

I was paired with 2 kids, and as I walked over to their (outdoor) desk the little girl jumped up and ran to hug me. That was honestly one of the best experiences of my life.   The little boy was quiet and hardworking. The two listened to me read a story, worked on 3 worksheets (the letter of the week is L) and answered every question with "yes miss" or "no miss".

The little girl loves my phone and took numerous photos with it...
It's an amazing way to realize and appreciate how lucky you are and to give back to a community.  I have 7 days of paradise, so the least I can do is read to the cutest kids for an hour or so
I'll blog more about the trip later but I had to share my experience today and encourage everyone to donate their time.  The little girl kept pulling my arm around her shoulders and hugging me... It made me so happy and is definitely something I would do again.

Sending no worries vibes from Jamaica,

Jess
